CALL FROM THE GRAVE I & II

Fanzine culture offers some of the most unique and rewarding experiences to be found in the shadowy realm of Underground Metal and CALL FROM THE GRAVE is without doubt one of its most beautiful examples. And beautiful is really just the right word. Everything here from the choice of paper to the typography and illustrations breathes pure, immaculate, heartwarming beauty. What really makes the zine stand out and justifies its place in the desecrated temple of Blackest Metal is obviously the content though. The mind behind CALL FROM THE GRAVE calls himself a man of faith i.e. a christian believer, a fact which in itself guarantees for some interesting results when interviewing the likes of CULTES DES GHOULES, HETROERTZEN, INQUISITION and MGLA. I was reading parts of CFTG #2 sitting on tatami mats on the floor of a Japanese ryokan, sipping green tea. Following the in-depth conversations with Jérôme of ROME or Pelle of IN SOLITUDE in such a reclusive, meditative environment was a really transporting experience but be assured that this publication will bring a spark of spiritual illumination to the rat infested shithole you're living in as well. Needless to say this is not about music for the most part but about spirituality, belief and personal experiences. There are two volumes of CALL FROM THE GRAVE out by now and I strongly recommend you hunt them down as soon as you can.
