PORTAL is an enigma, an entity which was not spat into this world to be understood but to be experienced, suffered, endured. Strangely, this hostile being has become something like a vanguard of a new breed of bands dubbed as ‚obscure‘ or ‚cavernous‘. Yet, PORTAL remains a beast of its own. The Australians possess the incomprehensible ability to guise the true structures - and dare I say ‚beauty‘? - of their compositions under layers of filth and chaos the listener literally has to tear away one by one with every spin. And while most of their peers fail to offer anything else than a noisy mess of inflated nothingness even after intensive listening, PORTAL’s true genius can only be discovered by digging deeper and deeper into the fathomless obscurity of their art. A painful process - but a rewarding one, even if you will probably never reach the bottom no matter how deep you dig. But then, there might be things which are not meant to be unearthed.
