Svartidauði - The synthesis of whore and beast (Daemon Worship Productions/Terratur Possessions)

Blackest Metal is all about separating the sheep from the goats, about finding the few relevant artists and releases between the myriads of overhyped and musically indifferent acts crowding the web and the scene. This is why you will never find a ton o reviews here as I don’t wanna waste my time and yours on writing about stuff you don’t need in your pitiful lives. Having said that, be assured that you absolutely need „The synthesis of whore and beast“!

This isn’t a new release obviously but as DWP and Terratur Possessions have made Svartidauði’s 2014 EP available again on vinyl I was finally able to obtain a physical copy of this already classic piece of music. Following their critically acclaimed debut record „Flesh cathedral“, the masked Icelandic horde unleashes two new songs taking a slightly more visceral, ferocious approach than the four hypnotic cuts on the full-length. Chaotic, swirling and dissonant, Svartidauði numb the listener’s senses with layers and layers of guitars, pummeling drums and obsessed roars. It takes a few spins to fully grasp the complexity of the again brillant compositions but as always with this extraordinary band, it’s well worth the effort. Unlike many of their contemporaries, Svartidauði know to how to craft compositions that actually make sense and create a captivating atmosphere impossible to escape. There’s a lot to discover during the 16+ minutes spinning time and if you don’t own this already (which most of you probably do), you should definitely try to get your copy of this beautifully designed record right now as from what I know the MLP is close to sold-out already again.
