FUNERAL THRONE - THRESHOLD (Blut & Eisen)

Great Britain’s FUNERAL THRONE really took me by surprise with this record. I hadn’t even heard of the band when the simple, iconic cover art caught my attention. It took a few spins before I was ultimately enthralled by FUNERAL THRONE’s way of creating fanatically intense yet melodic and catchy Black Metal exhibiting their mastership in an art almost lost and forgotten in the days of disposable music and short attention spans: Quality songwriting. Of course, these British gentlemen are children of their time and „Threshold“ bursts with harmonies and dynamics so typical for post-2000 „orthodox“ Black Metal, yet their ability to create memorable moments and a constant flow that takes the listener on a journey through multiple emotional states from introspection to undisputed aggression is remarkable. From the first ghostly sounds of the intro track „Resurrection“ to the epic finale of „Gateways to lucifer“ there’s not a single redundant note on „Threshold“. Upon the first few listens you might think „I’ve heard that before“ but I promise you’ll find yourself dragged deeper into the songs every time and the melodies will keep coming to your mind at times you don’t expect them to. The record comes in a tastefully designed three panel digipak with an 8 page booklet making the whole package a really worthwhile investment for every underground Black Metal lover.
