It’s safe to say that in recent years, CULT OF FIRE have created some of the most memorable moments in Black Metal for me both live and on record. Thus, a new release by the cloaked Czech entity always sees me flustered with anticipation for weeks in advance. This time, it’s a new 4-track EP and the optical presentation alone is on a totally different level. The lotus-shaped picture vinyl housed in an opulent fold-out cover perfectly sets the frame for the once again unrivaled music excellence of CULT OF FIRE. Following the course established on their already classic „मृत्यु का तापसी अनुध्यान“ album, the band even goes a step further in terms of abducting their devotees into the realms of eastern mysticism and creating a state of meditative trance claimed by so many of their peers. Some elements might surprise listeners, yes, but I don’t see it as my job to technically describe music that’s out there for everyone with ears to listen. All I aim to achieve, if anything, is to give you an idea of the impact these wonderful sounds have on me and might have on you. And just as the record’s title sums up about everything that matters in this sphere of existence, the last chords of the closing „Tantric Sex“ leave me with a shimmer of hope that there might be something meaningful beyond this dead shell of a world we live in. In other words: Buy this shit!
