The first association that comes to my mind when contemplating a collaboration of Greece’s ACHERONTAS and Finland’s HORNA is that of contrast and polarity. ACHERONTAS’ grandiose sonic temples and HORNA’s raw, violent, often unfinished-sounding assaults brought together on one beautiful piece of black wax should be good for some stimulating tension.

And in fact: Though only 25 minutes in length, „Atavistic resurgence“ transports the listener to two totally different worlds. ACHERONTAS lead you in and out of their mysterious realm with ritual ambient sounds lending their contribution the feeling of a self-contained, carefully crafted piece of art. As with all their recordings and live shows, ACHERONTAS feel more like a meditation than traditional song-based Metal music. HORNA, in contrast, hammer out two cuts of ugly Black Metal that grab you by the throat and fuck your ass harder than your stepdad ever did while you’re humming the addictive melodies over and over. Two artistic visions, coming together to create something unique and beautiful, housed in a nice gatefold with a brilliant BRIANDVP artwork. You know what to do.
