A malevolent creature, carved from wood. Eternally congealed in its fury and yet strangely vivid. The cover artwork of ASCENSION’s latest offering „Under Ether“ couldn’t fit its contents better. Just as the forbidding entity greeting  - or repelling? - the listener on the CD booklet, „Under Ether“ seems to be carved from a once living, organic material, revealing the true, terrible essence hidden inside. The album abandons genre conventions not for the sake of being original but for the sole purpose of manifesting its creators’ unadulterated artistic vision. And ASCENSION’s vision has never come across as genuine as on this record. Breathing and aching, desperate and triumphant, ASCENSION deliberately tear down the sonic walls most Black Metal bands entrench themselves behind just to demonstrate that they have absolutely nothing to hide. „Under Ether“ is honest, pure and impressive. In other words: A true work of art.
