Unless you have been living under a tombstone for the last few months, you’ve certainly heard of the fact that NECROS CHRISTOS are presenting their swan song in the form of a 2-hour long monster of a triple album called „Domedon Doxomedon“. And even if a few days of extensive listening through the threefold masterpiece are in no way sufficient to fully grasp the whole thing, it’s safe to say that „Domedon Doxomedon“ is not only the grand finale of NECROS CHRISTOS’ recording career but one of this millennium’s crowning achievements in Death Metal. The band has significantly expanded their soundscape while at the same time sticking to their signature brand of grave, mystic Death Metal 100 %. Deeply rooted in tradition, NECROS CHRISTOS have created a musical language so distinct, so substantially different from anything that came before them that words fail to give an idea. You will notice a lot of ancient Death Metal here, but you will never feel like you’ve heard it before.
The religious concept forming the foundation of this behemoth has absolutely nothing to do with latter-day triangles-and-snakes occultism and though most people into this kind of music won’t probably share any of Mors Dalos Ra’s beliefs (which owe a lot to ancient Jewish/Christian tradition), the sincerity and wholeheartedness with which the man pours his interpretations of things beyond human understanding into a work of art that’s bigger than the men who created it demands utmost respect. „Domedon Doxomedon“ is an experience, a journey that will take a shitload of time and of which i have only seen the beginning yet. I have no idea where it will take me, the only thing I know: It will be worth it.
